FAQ

Got questions about the process? Want to know more about us? Learn more below.

  • How long does it take to build a home?

The average amount of time to build a new construction house is about 7.7 months, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2018 Survey of Construction. This can vary, of course, from longer to less time depending on things like the weather, pandemics, availability of materials, and other things that cannot be planned for in advance.

  • What makes you different as a builder?

We value quality over quantity. De Novo Homes is not a “tract” or high-volume builder. Even spec homes are built as if they are custom homes, beginning with the floor plan. We build only a handful of homes each year so that we can give individual time and attention to each. Limiting our volume allows us to focus on quality, good design, and cost management.

  • How do you handle delays?

It’s construction: expect the unexpected. A window might be broken; the wrong brick might be delivered; lumber prices might increase. We approach these kinds of issues professionally and collaborate openly with our clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to resolve them as economically and efficiently as possible.

  • What’s your advice for those considering a custom-built home?

The decision of whether to build a custom home or buy an existing home depends on which is more important to you – convenience or customization.  Questions to consider in determining whether to buy or build:

Are you on a tight schedule?

Are you on a tight budget?

Are you susceptible to “decision fatigue”?

Do you have a Pinterest board with features you want in your new home?

Do you find that existing homes you’ve toured don’t fit your needs?

If you’re on a tight schedule or a tight budget, buying an existing home may be the best move for you.

If you’re susceptible to “decision fatigue,“ you also might not enjoy the process of building a custom, which will involve making a lot of decisions.

However, if you want to make your Pinterest dreams a reality or have unique needs or tastes, a custom home fits the bill. You can expect customization to come with a higher price tag and a bit longer schedule, but most find that living in a home designed to suit their individual needs and tastes is worth the extra effort.

We’ll work with you every step of the way to build a home with the features you want with due consideration to your budget and timeline.
